September Teacher of the Month - Israel Martinez

97.5 KLAK is proud to recognize Israel Martinez as our September 2007 Teacher of the Month.

Mr. Martinez currently teaches at Davis Elementary in Royse City, Texas with over 23 years experience as an educator. Israel holds a B.S. in General Education from Texas Tech University and an Endorsement in Bilingual education. In addition to this he has had training from Texas A&M Commerce as a Mentor to Teachers and is part of the Texas Association of Bilingual Educators.

Israel is a general education teacher for grades Pre-K through 12, and specializes in English. He has taught for 12 years in the district.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Martinez works in a variety of volunteer positions and champions causes like the creation of bilingual computer programs to be implemented in all bilingual classrooms. He has also served in the Pastoral Council for three years at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall. In the Legion of Mary organization he has held the office of President for two terms and also the office of Secretary for the Region.

Mr. Martinez has been called a very active teacher and believes that students learn best by doing. In his classroom, he likes to encourage his students to think creatively by using techniques which incorporate music, art, and hands-on activities. He also encourages parents to take an active role in their children's education. He attempts to form strong bonds with the parents of his students, and foster an environment that will keep communication channels open and clear.
