When it comes to your decor, it is amazing how small changes really can have a huge impact.

If you’re not completely satisfied with one of your rooms or a part of it like a set of bookshelves for example, step back and attempt to see things from a different angle, sometimes just moving a small piece of furniture can balance the traffic flow or make a room feel larger.

I know in my old house I had a problem room.  The den was really tiny, but a friend helped me see that if I angled the sofa to face the fireplace the whole room became this great cozy environment and you no longer noticed how small it really was.

Another tip to warm a room up is to layer fabrics.  Do this by adding throw pillows in various patterns, choose a soft comfy throw to toss on your sofa and  scrunch a gorgeous piece of fabric on a coffee table under the accessories.  Adding fabric is the fastest way to give luxury and warmth to a space!

When working with accessories, I find a stack of old books to be invaluable. It is almost impossible to collect a group of accessories that are the perfect size and scale to work together so I stack books under the accessories until I have a balanced arrangement.  I use this trick a lot throughout my house with lamps too ... sometimes just elevating an object a few inches makes all the difference!

Tassels are another way to add depth to your setting.  I often hang them on mirrors, paintings, crystal items and of course, lamps.  They just add that much-needed punch of color and sophistication.
